Play Imaginative Batman Super Alloy Action Figure, 1:6 Scale

Product Description

Batman sure gets his share of sizable action figures these days. Hong Kong's Hot Toys offers hyper realistic 1/6 and 1/4 The Dark Knight Rises figures while Enterbay has a 1/4 scale Batman Begins toy on the market. What's been missing in this movie mix, though, has been a sculpt based on comic book art. Leave it to Singapore's Play Imaginative will fill this void... with metal. PI is currently accepting preorders on its 1/6 scale Super Alloy Batman featuring a New 52 Justice League costume design by DC's Jim Lee and boasting a body that's 85 percent diecast metal. In addition to its 50+ points of articulation, the figure will also come with "a detachable and posable fabric cape, grappling gun and batarang accessories, and a magnetic dragon gargoyle display base," according to PI's official listing. The figure even comes with embedded magnets in its hands and feet to interact with all of its own wonderful toys. Since the $315-350 figure is only available through pre-order at PI stores and the Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention in September, it will sadly ellude most of us. If you've got plenty of cash and a bud in Singapore, however, you could soon find yourself the envy of all of your Hot Toy collecting friends.

Initially, in it's design and concept it's really kind of brilliant...

(I pre-ordered mine on eBay)

...the execution however is rather disappointing.
In the promotional pics on the site it seemed as though the whole dragon was magnetic and the figure could stand anywhere on it.

It is clear that corners were cut in it's manufacture as there is a smidgen of magnetic activity, but it's fairly useless. With the plastic knees it's ridiculously difficult to stand it on a table, let alone the dragon without it falling over. Props don't stay in hands. Cowl is also "magnetically deficient" as it's constantly falling.

When you finally get it together and it stays all together, it's a work of art.
Unfortunately, I came home from work tonight to find figure out on the floor in an apparent face-plant. This could be a problem.

Curious if anyone else is noticing the same. This probably makes me a glutton, but I hope version 2.o is all alloy. Alloy knees and ankles are key. Whiney, whiney I know... but I really wanted to love this thing. I think for $200/$150 I wouldn't have felt the sting so... $275
