It's a good figure. Not a great one.

Hot Toys Batman Begins Sideshow Exclusive Collectible figure has a hefty price tag attached to it. In case you didn't notice. What you get back depends on what you're looking for. This is the Batman Begins suit so it doesn't have the same innovation that Hot Toys Dark Knight (DX02) or their Dark Knight Rises (DX12) figures have to offer. If you're looking for a great version of the Batman Begins suit in 1/6 scale then this is the one you're looking for. As i'll mention later, the suit and figure itself are outdone at the 1/4 scale. Not only does he have his Batman cowl which is converted into 1/6 scale fairly decently but he has a Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) head sculpt as well. This is the one rare case that i'm willing to say that i'm actually more impressed by the Bruce Wayne sculpt over the Batman sculpt. It's very well done. My only issue with the Batman sculpt is that the eyes seem too big. Like bright eyed and bushy tailed on a caffeine high kinda big. Without the ability to manipulate the eyes via PERS (DX exclusive feature) the eyes are stuck staring a gigantic hole through you. I can't take anything away from the actual head sculpt because as I said, the cowl is done decently for the most part. The eyes just seem a little "overwhelming" so to speak.

The figure itself comes with a harness and ski mask to compliment the Bruce Wayne head to recreate when he visited Gordon in the police station prior to completing the full suit. He also has his grapple gun, batarangs, and mines. The figure comes with a base and stand that actually refers to it as the "Batsuit Begins" version. Probably implying the beginning of the actual suit rather than the beginning of Bruce Wayne as Batman. The cape on this figure aside from the eyes is the 2nd of 3 disappointments to me. Custom capes are not difficult to make and I did just that for myself but the stock cape it comes with is very underwhelming to me. For the amount I paid I shouldn't feel compelled to make another cape. The one it comes with should be good. It ends up being more like "sufficient" and "acceptable" rather than "very good". The last problem I have is with the rubber material the suit is made of. It's not of the highest quality. Whenever you try to pose the suit there is just too much play in it creating a "squished" effect on the suit. Not only is that bad because it's harmful to the longevity of the figure but it's not appealing to the eyes. Literally, it's not something thats done smoothly. It results in a feeling of not wanting to do too much in the way of posing because it's own quality (or lack thereof) prohibts it fromm doing so.

Here's the bottom line, this is a VERY expensive piece that has too many little things not done right. To be totally honest with you, i'm not one of the people who nitpicks every little thing about these figures. It really takes a lot for me to make an issue about something. Now that I have the Enterbay 1/4 scale figure that features the same suit, my eyes have been opened completely wide as to how it is supposed to be done. Don't get me wrong, that figure had a few issues too but they were solved in the matter of minutes. This figure has problems that cannot ever be changed. The eyes are permanent. The rubber suit is permanent. Your only options are to deal with it, get rid of it, or not buy it. Or you could do what I did and wait till something else came out (Enterbays 1/4 Batman) and by that instead. I'm not hating on the figure by any means. It's a great figure but really and truly the price tag is moreso because of it's exclusivity rather than it's quality. To have to pay $500+ for a figure that has any issues let alone ONE is just too much to ask for in my opinion. My advice is that only the truly serious collectors/fans/fans of the suit should be interested. The casual collector/consumer shouldn't let the price tag fool them into believing they're going to get bang for their buck.
